Robbinsville, NC: Stecoah Valley Center Conceptual Master Plan and Site Design

The Stecoah Valley Center (SVC) is located in Graham County, NC about 10 miles northeast of the town of Robbinsville. The SVC is working with the Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team (GREAT) and wishes to develop a master plan for the +/-10 acre property that surrounds the SVC. This project will help achieve the mission of GREAT by addressing needs identified by residents in terms of health, social, economic, and recreation issues in various meetings and venues.

The SVC master plan and site design project is a component of reimagining the community on the heels of several other strategic planning efforts occurring in Graham County. In 2012, Reimagining Robbinsville set forth a series of strategies to help the community rebound from the economic downtown and promote the area for its natural beauty. Recently, the development of a Comprehensive Plan for Graham County by the Opt-In Initiative included a vision of the Stecoah Valley Center grounds as a key tourist hub designed to enhance the economic situation in the county.

Phase I of this project included the development and paving of a health fitness trail and playground on the grounds of SVC. The completion of Plans for Phase II include developing a master plan and site design for the entire 10 acres of the property. The most important needs for Phase II include enhancements to the existing 1/3 mile loop trail and playground; an outdoor restroom facility; a half basketball court; shuffleboard; picnicking areas with grills, tables, benches, and fire pits; horseshoes and/or corn hole; reflection garden; opt-in cottages; expanding the community garden, and; planting that addresses stormwater run-off to the stream.

In addition, focal area designs were prepared for specific sections of the master plan that need more detailed planning.

CDAC worked with a stakeholders committee and members of the community to develop the conceptual design concepts. To view final conceptual designs, click on the links below:
